James has extensive international performance experience, working with the Hofesh Shechter Company (Uprising/In Your Rooms, Political Mother, Survivor), Olivier Dubois (Tragédie), the Gary Clarke Company, Carte Blanche, and most recently as a performing Rehearsal Director in Punchdrunk’s productions of Sleep No More and The Burnt City.
In 2011 James created his first work Patriot, that premiered at Cloud Dance Festival London. It was performed in various places including The Actors Church Covent Garden, Karlovac Dance Festival Croatia, and ACT Festival Bilbao where it was awarded ‘Best Choreographic Direction.’
In 2012 James choreographed The Age as part of ‘In Good Company’ and was taken on a mini-tour of the South East (The Robin Howard Theatre, Brighton Dome, The Point Eastleigh and Pavilion Dance Bournemouth.) This was produced by Hofesh Shechter Company and supported by The Jerwood Foundation, Brighton Dome and South East Dance.
In January 2014 James presented his new work Oh | Glory as part of Resolution! 2014. The research and creation periods were supported by Exeter Northcott Theatre, Dance in Devon and Roehampton Unversity. It was met with very favourable reviews.
In 2018 James presented TERRA, his first full length work. It was commissioned by The Place & The Point, with support from Dance in Devon, NSCD, Yorkshire Dance and Arts Council England.
